Two of 2022’s biggest upcoming games have been delayed. Bethesda has published a statement on Twitter in which it has announced that Starfield and Redfall have both been pushed back into the firt half of 2023.

“The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them,” the publisher writes in its statement.

“We want to thank everyone for their excitement for Redfall and Starfield. That energy is a huge part of what inspires all of us ever day and drives our own excitement for what we are creating.

“We can’t wait to share our first deep dive into the gameplay for both Redfall and Starfield soon.”

The aforementioned gameplay deep dives are likely to be showcased at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12Starfield director Todd Howard late last year that a full-fledged showing of the game was planned for Summer 2022.

Both Starfield and Redfall were formally unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 showcase last year (though the former had been previously announced in 2018). Starfield was given a November 11, 2022 launch date, exactly 11 years on from the launch of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Todd Howard said in November of last year that Bethesda was feeling “confident” about being able to hit that target launch date.

Redfall’s announcement at E3 last year was accompanied with a Summer 2022 launch window, though in the absence of any updates on the game whatsoever in the time since then, a delay was looking increasingly likely.

Both Starfield and Redfall are in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
