Previews for Final Fantasy 16 have begun to drop along with extensive footage. Publications like Gematsu went hands-on with a demo and captured over 45 minutes of new gameplay. It sees protagonist Clive, Torgal, and Cidolfus Telamon (the Dominant of Ramuh) searching for the Dominant of Fire in a Royal Waloeder Army keep.

In addition to battling a mid-boss, the party encounters Benedikta, the Dominant of Garuda, and her harpies Suparna and Chirada. Combat is real-time, with Clive able to use close and long-range attacks, but he can also issue commands to his allies. The Stagger meter from Final Fantasy 7 Remake returns and is once again used to inflict massive damage while an enemy is stunned.

We also get Clive as Ifrit battling against Garuda, showcasing the mechanics of the Eikon fights. It’s much akin to a fighting game, but with simplified controls and cinematic moments. As noted by producer Naoki Yoshida months ago, there are support accessories which make the game easier for players.

These include the Ring of Timely Focus, which slows down time before you’re hit by an attack, and the Ring of Timely Strikes for executing combos by pressing the Square button alone. Check out all of them below in the short video below.

Final Fantasy 16 launches on June 22nd for PS5. Stay tuned for more details shortly.
